One thing I was thinking about regarding the very ending of this most recent episode is how it subverts and deepens the long-running Doctor Who cliche of the monster not being truly evil but rather misunderstood or operating with limited knowledge that causes them to pursue an incorrect path.
The ending could be almost uplifting: the Doctor's rogues gallery putting aside their personal differences and banding together to save the universe. Sure, it takes care of their mortal enemy at the same time, but there's something kinda sorta almost touching about their unity in the face of such a grave danger.
